Fading American Auto Industry Heralds Overall Economic Surrender
EconomyInCrisis.org

Auto manufacturing is one of the most “new economy” industries, using most advanced robotics, engineering, and supply-chain technologies. Autodata reports American auto manufacturers now make less than 45% of new cars sold in America. Only 2 of the 18 major auto companies are American. GM and Ford together lost 2.4% of market share in 2005. GM lost $4 Billion in last 12 months and Delphi has filed for bankruptcy.

If we cannot even sustain such a crucial, high-tech industry in our own country, what hope do we have for any other industry? This should be a major warning and wakeup to all Americans. If we control no industry, we must beg others to produce for us on their terms. Without American production, we have no economic leverage to the detriment of our security and standard of living.
